     Almost Swimming

The eggs have hatched and our alevins are almost ready to swim. We don’t know but we think the yolk sacs run out of the food that is in them that’s when we think they can swim. Also when the yolk sac runs out of food for them then we have to start feeding the alevins the fish food that just arrived.

It’s going to be so fun J!

Spelling and Homework message for April 30th

This week, the students selected 10 words they felt were important for their writing.  As you will likely notice, they don't really coordinate with the "No Excuse" and "Topic/Theme" headers, but I kept the same format anyway.  You will also notice the homework looks a little different this week - 2 word questions were sent home for extra practice pulling information from the problem to identify the appropriate calculations.  Please have your child see me if they need any help with this.  Thanks, and have a great "3-day-week."

Salmon Update

Most of the eggs are hatched and are now on the third stage.  We are looking at them in science class, some of the other eggs will soon be on the third stage.  The four stage is the fry. We’ve had the salmon eggs since march. We’ve had some dead ones but we still have a lot of eggs. I think when they get to a smolt we will let them go. The eggs are small. There’s probably  20  something  eggs. The fish food has arrived yesterday.

Through the Eyes of the Microscope

These are some pictures taken from our microscope of our alevin.  You will notice that there is a sack with a little"yoke" in the middle that is providing the food for the current stage of growth.  When the sack is all gone, we will have to start feeding them - we will also expect to see the little guys swimming around the tank when the sacks are gone.  In these pictures, you can also see the eye, sac with blood flow, the heart, the spine and if you look closely you can see the beginnings of a fin.

How To Make A Dog Sparkle

Add caption

Materials: Cup, shampoo, towel, hair dryer, brush, and collar.

Step one: Place your dog in the tub but make sure the water temperature is warm. Take any plastic cup and fill it up to the top. Then poor the water all over your dog. Don't get it in his/her eyes!

Step two: Use some dog shampoo and scrub his/her body. One squirt is enough for a small dog but if its a big dog use one more squirt.
Step three: Get the cup out and fill it again, rinse the shampoo off your dog. Poor the water all over your dog to make sure there is no shampoo left!

Step four: Take your dog out of the tub and get a towel. Wrap him/her in the towel and get your dog a little dry so it won't drip!

Step five: Plug in your hair dryer and put it on low. Blow Dry your dog until he/her is fluffy,

Step six: Bring out the brush and stroke him. Get out the Mats if your dog has any.

Step seven: take out your dogs collar and put it on. To make sure its not tight, you can put in two fingers. If you can't you should loosen it.
Step eight: Finally, You will have a happy, sparkling clean dog sitting down!

How To Put On Hockey Gear

First you put on the jock shorts because it
will protect you from being hurt in the middle part of your body. There is
another reason to wear this is to keep your hockey socks up.

Second you put on the knee pads to protect your self from
getting hit or slash in the knees from the players stick. You also can put tape
on your pads to make it more tight.

Third you put on your socks and make sure there fasten to
your jock shorts so they won’t fall down. Also your wear them because it’s part
of your uniform.

Fourth you put on your hockey pants so that it will protect
your behind and your tail bone from getting hit with a puck. If you fall on the
ice it will help you from being hurt.

Fifth you put on your chest protector it helps you from
getting hit in the back from the puck and getting check into the boards. Also
if you get hit in the stomach with some body’s hockey stick.

Sixth you place on your elbow pads so you won’t get hit with
a stick in the elbow and also if you fall down your elbows can get cut from the
ice. You can put tape on these to make them tight.

Seventh you would put on your jersey because it is also
another part of your uniform. Also it’s worn to represent your league too.

Eighth you put on skates so you can skate on the ice to play
the game also you have to tie them so they won’t fall off and remember to
sharpen them. You can put them on any time getting dress after you put on your
hockey pants.

Ninth you put on your neck guard to make sure that you won’t
get hit with a puck in the throat. You
also wear this to help you from being hurt in neck.

Tenth you put on your helmet with a face mask so you won’t
get hit in the face or mouth. Also most important if you fall on the ice you
won’t get a head injury.

Eleventh you put on your hockey gloves to help you not get
slash in the hand. They also give you a good grip.

Remember to wear all your gear to be safe so you won’t get
hurt and you can finally have a game of hockey and remember to have fun!

easter recounts

This week in Language Arts we did a recount on Easter. We had to finish it in 2-3 days. We had to write a first, next, then, and finally with a conclusion in our recount. We also did a recount plan to figure out what our ideas were going to be. It took us each about 10 minuts to do the recout plan. On our last day, day 3, we were revising our story.  Days 1-2 we wrote the story on paper we didn't do a good copy; instead, we revised on the rough copy. Thats what we did in language arts class this week.
