Happy Friday

Hi Everyone,

I t was a bit of a busy week, and it made our weekly schedule a bit scattered so next week you will be happy to know that we will be resuming our weekly Math Fact quizzes.  It actually might have been a nice break for us from the quizzes, but it is important for the student to commit these facts to memory.

Have a great weekend!

DuckTape Wallets

By:Dawn
Materials
-Colored duck tape
-Wax paper
-Scissors
-Flat surface

1.Take a piece of duck tape and it will be how wide your
wallet so choosemhow big you want.Once you take one strip cut one more piece that is the exact same size and put them both hanging off the surface.
2. Take two more pieces the exact size of your other ones.

3.Have two of your four pieces and tape them together so you
just over lap them alittle. On the other side it should be all sticky.

4. Now you will need two more pieces the same size. Also
tapethem together like last time. If you want to, use a different color,
because it is foryour pouch. You don’t have to use a different color.

5. Since you have those two pieces
together take your wax paper and tape the
piece of tape you
ripped off and stick it onto your wax paper.

6. Now you have tape on your wax paper so now cut out your
piece of duck tape.Leave the wax paper on underneath.

7. See how you have your wax paper with the
tape and hold it up to yourwallet ask yourself do I want that wide of
a pouch, if not cutsome off.

8. Hold it up again and take a color of tape and measure
to make sure it is the length of the longest side of your
wallet.

9.Take your piece of tape you just cut off and put it on the
bottom so you stickit on your waxed piece. When you stick it on,
make sure there is just a little showing, fold over the rest
to the front of your wallet.

10. Take one more piece of tape and measure
it on the small side and dothat 2 times in total.

11. Now tape it on the small side, one on each, like you did
with the big side.

12.Fold your wallet in half and there you go

Poetry Lesson Today

Here is a portion of today's lesson.  We spoke about rhyming pattern, word choice, and sentence fluency.

How to Make a Snowman

1.
For the bottom you make a snowball and pack it in
tight. Then you drop it in the snow and start pushing on it. The snow should
start sticking to it so push it until it is as 3 feet around.
2.
For the middle you do the same thing as the bottom
but this time make it 2 feet around.
3.
For the top do the same thing as the bottom one more
time, but made it 1 foot around.
4.
Now you see that you have a big, middle and small
sized snowball. You have to now have to put the middle-sized ball on top of the
biggest ball and put snow around the crack between them. Then you do the same
with the little ball and the middle ball.
5.
Now it is time to decorate! You can put anything you
want on it. Here are some things you can use to make the face: rocks, banana,
carrot and any type of berry or whatever else you can think of! Then it’s time
to put on the arms! Find two sticks and put them on the both sides of the
snowman. You can put a hat on top and a scarf if you want and now you have a
finished snowman! JJJ
How to Make a
Snow dog
1.
Make three snowballs a little smaller than the
snowman’s head put two together and put so much snow in the crack between them
so it looks sort of like a noodle then put the third snowball on the top and
pack it into the crack by his head.
2.
For the nose take some snow and make it 5 inches
long and 4 centimetres wide that will be the nose put it on the middle of the
snowball.
3.
Then decorate
it like you decorated the snowman. To make it coloured take a little food
colouring of any colour you choose, put it in a spray bottle and then put in
some water in the spray bottle with it. Then spray it on your snow dog!
Here is how they might look
when finished:

Two teens launched a Lego guy in to space 24km above earth.
They made it with a camera and a balloon. It was so cool because you could see
it launch up into space. The teens were from Toronto, Ontario. The cameras were
set to take pictures every 20 seconds. When the Lego guy returned to earth they looked
at the pictures. They were shocked that the mini figure was clutching the Canadian
flag with a part of the earth in the back.
Cougar attack
Cougars have been
living in Vancouver Island and they are starting to go into the city, because
of the population of deer in Victoria. Some people have been saying to everyone
is to bring their pets in at night. There have been rumors that cougars sometimes
attack humans. There is a very fat cougar living in the neighborhood.
If you see a cougar you just have to stay come, stand up and
walk away slowly.
Many people have survived a cougar attack, many people just
fight back with there fist.

The Big Message:Lady Gaga Style STOP BULLING

At a school in Toronto the students had a special guest at their anti-bullying assembly last week.Lady Gaga sent a recorded video message. The student council president is a huge fan of Lady Gaga. He had sent emails to different celebs, asking them to help the school’s anti-bullying campaign. He was thrilled when Lady Gaga read his email and he was the only student at the school who knew about the video until the assembly. She talked briefly about Jamey, a teenager in N.Y. who was bullied online for more than a year by kids who taunted him because he was gay. Lady Gaga told the students she was proud of them for being such strong advocates for the LGBT community. LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. “There should be more monsters like you,” she said. “Monster” is the pet name for Lady Gaga’s fans. “love each other and treat each other with respect , because we’re all we have.” Then she blew them a kiss.

Guidelines for Province Report

Before deciding if you are done your assignment, please address these questions:

Examine the Physical landscape
What physical region(s) of Canada run through your province?
Have you included the map of the province?

Human Landscape
Where do people live (major cities)?
            Why do they live there?
What do they do to interact with each other (fun, festivals, etc.)?

Symbols of Canada
Is there a provincial animal?
            Is there a provincial flower?
Do you have a picture of the flag and coat of arms?
Are there any other symbols important to your province?
