Geocaching

Geocaching
By Ross

Geocaching is a treasure hunt that uses a GPS. A GPS provides co-ordinates that will get you to the treasure. If you like walking on nature trails or just even walking in the city you can find geocaches in many different places.

There are different kinds of caches that you can find - normal or traditional geocaches, mystery geocaches, multi caches, virtual caches, event caches, and Earth caches are the main ones. Normal geocaches are ones that usually involve a container with a log sheet to sign, Mystery caches is where you have go somewhere and find something out to get to the cache, Multi caches is when you have to find more than one geocache to get to the final part. Virtual caches are where you have to  take a picture and answer  questions. Earth caches are special places that  people can visit to learn about a unique feature (like a landmark with a historical plaque) and you might have to answer questions about the spot.

Geocaches can be many different sizes and are almost all the time camouflaged with camouflaged tape . The smallest cache is called a micro and it could be something like a pill bottle. The second smallest one could be a peanut butter jar. The third largest size is something like an large container. The biggest size is a very large ammo box. The most usual size you would find is a micro or a peanut butter jar. You can usually find ones like ammo boxes a little bit off a main trail.

Examples of traditional geocaches:

This is a example of what a camouflage peanut butter jar that is hidden in a tree. A tree is one of the many different places that it would usually be hide.

These next 2 pictures are of a unique kind of geocache  that has a Pepsi can and then at the bottom is the part where the geocache is.

This a picture of a little micro that is called a nano stuck on this sign.

This is a example of a micro that is a film canister that has a magnet that is hidden on a guard-rail where you could sometimes find them.

This is an example of a larger container and this one sometimes would have a lot of stuff inside of it that you could bring on to another geocache.

Step 1

Before you start doing it, think to yourself  would you rather be on a hiking trail or would you like to be on a city street doing this. If you don’t like walking then if you have an ATV or if you don’t have one than you could easily use your car and drive as close as you  can get from the place that you are at.

Step 2
Once you have found out which one you would rather do, you head for the car and start to follow your gps where it tells you to go.

Step 3
Once you have arrived at the area then and start to look around for the geocache. If you find it - take out the log book and sign then take something inside it if you want to. Or if you did not find it then you can go on geocaching.com and say that you didn't find but if you don’t want to do it that way than don’t go on geocaching.com or put you didn't find it on the smartphone.

Step 4
Then return home and if you enjoyed doing it then you can do it again another day.

This week in Art we made faces that had to be symmertical and they had to be differnt colours on
the left side and on the right side. The eyes had to be differnt colours but we had to make sure that they were in about the same spot that of the other eye, also the lips had to be attached with differnt colours.

Worlds Stinkest and Biggest Plant Growing

You know how stink can be so unbearable that sometimes it makes your eyes water.  If you do then you might not want to travel to Niagara Falls because that is where the worlds stinkiest (and biggest) plant is growing as you are reading this post.  On April 29th it was measured at 88.5 inches.

Graph

We have been reviwing graphs in the graff above I used our favorite types of animals and as you can see the most popular animal was the dog. I put the infrormation about which animal we liked most and turned that information into a graff.

No Homework Sheet This Week

Hi everyone,

Due to many scheduled events this week both in the school and out of the school, there will be no homework sheet coming home this week.  If you are looking for some extra exciting questions to work on, students should continue to work though multiplication questions that are 3 digits by 1 digit, and division questions that are a 2 digit number divided by a 1 digit number.

Tomorrow night will be our school performance of the Wizard of Oz, and it looks to be a great performance.  Good luck!

Spelling words will be coming home tomorrow for a quiz on Friday.  We have been working to improve the word choice in our writing, and these 10 words will be a selection of the words our class feels are some of the most effective words for different situations.

As always, contact me if you have any questions,

Mr. Carr

bye bye

                             Our Salmons big step!

Our salmon are getting bigger and stronger; soon they are going to bury themselves under the rocks. There yolk sacks are getting smaller, and smaller, each day. You can see their heart when you look at them and blood vessels, it’s really cool. Also they’ve been practicing breathing for when they lose their yolk sack so they can actually breathe. Soon there going to be fry’s.

multiplacation word problems

Math word problems                                           on the week of May 7th in Mr. Carr’s grade 4 class we did multiplication word problems.

                                This is a example

                                   345x6=

                       (300x6)+(40x6)+(5x6)

                                 =1800+240+30

                                 =2070

So that is how we did it. Except there would be a word problem and a sentence answer.J

Math this week

 Math this week

In math this week we made 3D shapes with play- dough. One of the shapes we made were triangular prism and we had to somehow find a way to make them look has good has we could. The two colors’ that we had were rather blue or green. Whe also had to make two different play- dough triangular that didn’t look alike.

One of the other things we did in math this week was creating math problems and are 2 math equation rather had to be division or multiplication and they had to be 2 digit by 1 digit or you could have also have 3 digit by 1 digit.  We would rise are hand and say a question that would be grade 4 acceptable.

Another thing that we did in Math was using a mira to make the same shape on the other side that would reflect on the other side of the picture and try to draw it on the same shape.

Math we did this week

Math We Did This Week J

This week for math we learned about symmetry. Symmetry is when you have a drawing of something and another drawing of something that looks the same. When you fold the drawings together, they have to match each other. We also had to draw the symmetry line. If the drawings don’t add up then you don’t write down a symmetry line. It also works if one drawing is symmetrical or not symmetrical. If you ever try it, it is very fun. Trust me.  So a way to see where the line of symmetry  is, is you draw a shape and you fold the paper in half  and see if on both sides you the exact same shape and if you don’t then that isn’t the line of symmetry.  And that is what we learned about symmetry.
