These are GREAT Ideas!

These will be the images you will use for generating your ideas today when you work on writing.  I wish I was there to see what your ideas look and sound like, but I will have to wait until Wednesday.

Good luck, and remember; it is your imagination that creates the story.

Word Work Focus

We have been working in the class with words. The suffix, prefix, and root of each word provide clues to the meaning and spelling. Here is a chart we filled in during one of our classes to help build an understanding of the concept. The crossword at the bottom of the blog page uses these words as well.

Homework Delayed

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to not have the reading logs sent home tonight. The network was down on the weekend and this morning which prevented the printing of the sheets, and then I didn't get to it in time before the buses left at the end of the day. One of the students reminded me about the homework page - but it was as he was walking out the door to catch his bus this afternoon! I wonder if that was a coincidence.

I will be sure to send it home tomorrow.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

A quick update...

September was a busy month, and now it seems as though the middle of October is just around the corner. Students have been busy working on building strategies for addition and subtraction, finding various ways to represent numbers to 1000, and solving problems that require ordering and comparing numbers. Did you check out the new Math game called "Circle 99?" It is really challenging, but it forces you to use your Mental Math strategies. In Language Arts we have been using a descriptive paragraph to build an understanding of how word choice has an impact on a writer’s voice. As well, we have been practicing adding details that build and develop the main idea. If all goes well (technology can be a challenge sometimes) we will have these paragraphs printed and sent home tomorrow. If you look at the bottom of the blog page, you will also see a crossword puzzle. We will be working with these words for couple more weeks to gain a better understanding of prefixes, root words, and suffixes. I hope all is well; but as always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Mr. Carr

Faux Pas Internet Lesson

This is a video for the end of the day lesson. After we watch it, we will discuss how the lessons apply to our classroom since we spend much of our time working on the computers. Think of our Code of Conduct; Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.
